A formal verdict, in accordance with the medical evidence, that the deceased, Percy Ernest Harry Victory, died at Blackball on July 11, the cause of his death being heart iailuro, the result of extensive degeneration of tile heart from old standing coronary artery diseases, was returned by the Coroner, Mr Raymond Ferner, S.M., at an inquest hold at Groymoutn yesterday, touching the death of Percival Vickary, 45, married, wild met his death in a stone drive at the Blackball Coal Company’s mine, at Blackball, early on the morning of July 11.

New Zealand’s membership of the League of Nations will cost the Dominion £13,100 this year. The expenses of the delegate to Geneva are sot down at £1,500, although last year the cost was only £849. To make good cash deficiencies chip to fires, burglaries and forgery, the Post and Telegraph Department was involved in an additional expenditure op £99 last year. Burglaries at the post offices at Appclby, Hiwipango, Okoroirc* Silverdale, Te Kawa and Te Palm resulted in a loss of £92. Amounts totalling £3 were lost through fires which destroyed the post offices at Kopuawhara and Tisbury, wb ; l e tho forgery of vouchers for sustenance pryments at Christchurch caused a deficiency of £4.

The installation of a new modern electric lighting plant has been recently completed for the Glacier Hotel at Waiho. The power house is situated one and a half miles up the Tatare Lurge, and is fed from the Tatare River, through two tunnels of solid rock, one being 17 chains, and the other 4 chains. Throe chains of steel ami'copper alov pipes, carrying seventeen heads of water, falling over 150 feet from the penstock, develop 250 horse power at the turbine. The voltage developed on tho main line is 11,000. Practically everything at the hotel is worked hv electricity, and later centra! touting is to be installed in the roosns.

At a gathering In, All Saints’ Chprch grounds .this afternoon memorial trees to Bishqp r Selwyn, Bishop Harper, Archbishop ’Julius and Bishop West Watson wore planted. The Vicar, Rev. Thorpe presided, and a welcome was extended to Bishop West Watson by Mr A. ,R. Elcoek, Deputy Mayor, Mr W. E. Richards amt J. B. Ward, Church Qfllcots, His Lordship gave a short address expressing stimulating words in regard to the beautification of the Church grounds, .-nd to the s citizens in reference to beautifying their town to make it fit. .in with the beauties of nature surrounding it. . The Bishop then planted trees to his predecessors, Bishop. Selwyn. the first bishop of .New Zealand, Bishop Harper, who was the first bishop of Westland in conjunction with Canterbury; also to Archbishop Julius who was still with them. The .Deputy Mayor planted the tree to the memory of Bishop West 'Watson who they were glad to have with them that day.
