WOMEN FOR HOME DEFENCE. (Per British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, June 16. Plans for recruiting 500,000 members for an organisation called ‘‘Women’s Voluntary Service” were announced to-night. The Dowager Lady Reading is at the head of the organisation, which will not.be officially associated with any of the defence forces, hut will work in close co-operation with local authorities, Government departments, and other Women’s organisations. , ■..

The main duties of the organisation will be connected with air raid precautions. Wdino tv*tillages oP 17 and 65 are being invited to volunteer, -whether married or single.
