OTTAWA, - June 16
The Budget presented by. the Minister for finance (Mr (J. ,-v. Dunning) in the House of Commons rvvea.s record revenues. The 13,000,000 dollars deficit is the lowest for eight years. A 20,000,000 dollars . grant for drought relief to Saskatchewan pievented a balanced Budget. There are no tariff changes. Trade has increased by dollars,and exports are up by 7,000,000 dollars. The Minister issued a warning that the trade treaty negotiations, witn the United States were difficult, ,as *o..nada was insisting that tariff reductions must be bilaterial. '•
Defending the Government’s .“easy money"'* policy, Mr Dunning vigorously assailed the “new economics’’ demand that no interest be paid on Government loans. “Something out of nothing” theories meant inflation, boon s, and eventual collapse. Thunderous applause marked this challenge to Social Credit.
