During the past few days Mr O’Britn, M.P., has been conducting a very smcessful pre-sessional series of adiir. sses in South Westland. At Jackson Bay he addressed an audience of 130, at Bruce Bay 100, and at Copeland Camp (Karangarua) about 50. Since then, Mr O’Brien lias spoken at Wth.ka, Wataroa, and Harihari, and is to address the electors at Ross this evening, speaking at Hokitika tomorrow night. On Monday, Mr O'Brien visits the Kokatahi-Koiter-angi districts, and will speak at night, llis reception at all meetings lms been very cordial.

The annual combined gathering of the Ladies’ Guilds associated with the Hokitika Church, was held on Thursday afternoon at the Church of Christ. There was an attendance of over 100 and a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon was spent. 'I he ladies were welcomed at the door by the President of the Christ of Christ C.W.A. (Mrs N.

Haigh) and- by Mrs H. Cave. After a short devotional session in which the hymn “Rock of Ages’’ was sung and a scriptiue passage ’read by Captain Read of the Salvation Army, a programme of vocal, pianoforte and elocutionary items was given interspersed with competitions. Vocal solos were rendered by Mils Cora Lynn Mrs Harrison, and Miss A. Duff; recitations by Miss Alexis Campbell an c ] Mrs A. Carr; and a pianoforte solo by Mrs H. Cave. Competitions were won by Miss Perry and Mcsdaines Michel, G. King, Thorpe, Ziegler, and G Perry. During the programme a daii:(ty afternoon tea was served. After thanks were expressed bv representative ladies the afternoon was. brought to u fitting close with the Doxology.
