GREYMOUTH, May 10. At the Magistrate's Court jeiterday, Douglas Ckurclier Davidson, 52, a painter and paper-hanger, ol no lixeu . abode, was charged with*the theft of a blatle lazor valued at 6d, the property of John William McKinnon, at Punakaiki, on April 29. '■ Daviusoii. was fm tlicr charged that, on April 21, at Punakaiki, he stole a rifle, a slasher, and a saucepan, ot the total value of £3 ils, the ptopeity of Robert Albert ’ Defendant pleaded guilty to both charges, ana was convicted and fined £1 on the first charge and £1 on tne seebnd charge.

Henry James Hende, insurance agent, of Gladstone, was charged (i) that, on April 3l), in High Street, Greymouth, lie diet negligently drive a motor-car; (2) that, lie was in a state of intoxication, while in charge of a motor-car iu uresson otieet. The defendant, on the first charge, was fined £5, and ordered co pay Court costs JUS, and witness’s expeuses 4s. ihe Magistrate added that he thougut that defendant could afford very well to do without a driver’s license until he was a little .older. -His present license would be suspended, and he would be declared incapable of holding a license until May 31st, 1939. lho Magistrate expressed the hope.that the authorities would, take some actmn to remove the bank of shingle near the scene of the accident, in view of the danger that it piesented,. at the entrance ro Morice Street, leading to the Grey Hospital, The more senous charge was dismissed. Llovd Cecil! .Williams was charged with the unlawful conversion of a motor-car, valued at £l2O, the property of Len. Egerton. at- Greymouth, on April 23. He was also’ charged with having no driver’s licence. The conversion charge was dismissed. On the charge of driving without a license defendant was fined 10s, with jts costs.
