COLLISION WITH POLE. (Per Press Association —Copyright) j ; BLENHEIM, March U. A motor-car which collided at midnight with a telephone pole at Springcreek, smashed a length of several feet clean out. The driver, Patrick Ryan, licensee of the Junction Hotel, Spring Creek, who was returning from Blenheim, luckily escaped with chest and leg injuries. LAST SUMMER CRUISE. AUCKLAND, March 11. On the last, of this season’s summer cruises, the P. and O', liner, Strathmore, arrived at Auckland early this afternoon alter a pTeasant Tasman ■ trip, bringing 1000 cruise passengers and 61 disembarking passengers. The vessel leaves for Wellington at 11 a.m. to-morrow. A fleet of cars and buses will be lined up at the wliari'side to take passengers on overland tours and : on to Wellington. NAVAL DRAFT RETURNS. WELLINGTON, March 11. A naval draft of eighteen New Zealanders returned by the Rangitata after three years with the Royal Navy under the exchange system. An impulse for mischief, such as apparently seizes a person after pro- - tractcd drinking, came over Thomas Barbour, a visitor from Timaru, in the early hours of the morning, when, being near the Terminus Hotel, he nut'ed a stone through a window. He pleaded guilty to this act Ibis morning, stating he did not know why he did it. He had been drinking for a week, having raised the money mi a gold watch.
