THEFT OF CLOTHING

Described on the charge sheet in the Police Court to-dav as “camera girls,” Iris Alihia Murphy, aged 19, and Patricia Joan Thompson, aged 20, were: charged with stealing two dresses valued at £3 10s, the property of Myra Grieves, on March 8. •, . The police obtained a. remand until March 17. /, •.- ,J “These girls-say that they arrived: as stowaways aboard the Mariposa, but whether that is true or not, we do not know,” said Detective-Sergeant McHugh. The Magistrate said that while on remand, the accused would remain at the Salvation Army Home. A STOWAWAY CHARGED. AUCKLAND, March 11. Having spent four days in prison on remand, Stephen .Jonson, 33, appeared for sentence at the Police Court on a charge of stowing away on the Mariposa at Sydney on March 4. Counsel said that Jonson was...unable to obtain work 'in Australia s ,siafid liaving.no money, returned to his native country as a stowaway. .. . . The Magistrate said that Jonson had been sufficiently punished, and ordered him to come up for sentence if called on within six months, and also to pay the amount of the fare, £lO, within three months.
