MR FRANK EVANS

During his period of 26 years as Registrar of Births, Deaths, and Marria-. ges at Auckland and Christchurch Mr Frank Evans, Registrar at Auckland, who is to-retire dn ,; superannuation on March 31, has officiated' at 10.000 weddings. “By tying the knot for 20,000 persons I hope I have done something towards adding to the sum of human happiness,” ho said this morning. 111 addition to being Registrar of Births, Deaths, and. Marriages,- .Mr— Evans is Registrar of Electors and Passport Officer. He was private secretary to the Rt. Hon. R. J ~.;^ftidrill'"from 1900 to 1902. and private seefetriry, to the Rt. Hon Sir Joseph War/i: from 1902 t 0.1906. He left the latter position to become first chief clerk in the'Electoral Department. Wellington.
| In 1912, while holding the office of 1 deputy-chief in the Electoral Department at Wellington, .Mr Evans was/i: ' appointed to the post of Registrar of Births, Deaths, and ; Marriages at ■ Christchurch. , He was also Registrar for the Southern Maori Electorate, comprisingthe whole of the SouthTsland.Mr Evans w,as engaged for the Expeditionary Forces election at the Sock-' burn and Addington'camps in IDU. In i 1920 he was transferred to Auckland as Registrar of Births, Deaths and MarriageS, Registrar of Ejectors and Passpprt. Officer, 1 acting at Returning Officer for both'Auckland East arid Auckland Central electorates at different times*'/arid for the Auckland licensing district; be- ( fore the registration work of the nine Auckland electoral districts was ’centralised in his office in 1925.
