N.Z. PARLIAMENT

HON W. NASH TO SPEAK. (Per Press dissociation —Copyright). WELLINGTON. Sept. 20. Further contributions to the Ad-dress-in-Leply debate, will be beard tomorrow. when tile Houfce of .Representatives resumes alter the week-end recess. It is expected that, the Minister for Finance t the lion W. Nash) will speak in the debate during the evening, and this should unquestionably be the main feature of the day's proceedings. The . possible duration of the debate is difficult to determine. It is gathered that at least eight lurtlier Opposition members are likely to speak, and speeches may also be made by one or two of the Independents. Some interest is likely to be caused by the attitude adopted by Mr A. C. A. Sexton (Independent. Franklin), who early last year appeared to entertain Government sympathies, but who more recently has been active in bis criticism of the guaranteed p; ice scheme. Another factor with a bearing on • the Address-in-Leplv debate is that after the present no-confidence amendment has gone to the vote, the Opposition members will have the right of speaking a, second time, but it is not yet known to what extent, it any, they will avail themselves of this privilege.

There does not seem any great likelihood of the Budget making its .appearance this week. It is ready lor presentation, but. at the conclusion of a meeting of the Cabinet this evening the Prime Minister (the Rt Lion M. J. Savage) stated that a bill providing for the re-enactment of the Fair Lents Act would be introduced early this week, and that urgency would be taken for its passage through the House, so as to have it on the Statute Book before the end of the present month, when the existing legislation expires. The Prime .Minister also indicated that urgency would be taken for an ;] luluStrial. Conciliation and Arbitration Amendment Bill, restoring the industrial status of clerical and other workers, and if these two measures are to be passed and the Address-in-Rcply debate completed, the Financial Statement may not be introduced until the beginning of- next week.
