AN EXPLORER (Received this day at 10.30 a.m.) DELHI, September 17. Filchner sent a mesage from Lea, disclosing that he and his companion Haack "ere imprisoned at Khat:m (Turkeston) for nine months. A British doctor saved Haack’s life following severe pneumonia. Filchner despite Khotan being in a state ot continuous war. saved valuable dooumnets glueing them to the inside of a leather case. He also achieved, despite difficulties the establishment of a chain of magnetic stations, enabling liim to complete maps of districts from Lanchow to Khotan. He learned at Lea that he had won the £BOOO, German National prize.
