AT OKARITO
THE BAR BLOCKED
NEW CHANNEL TO BE CUT,
The bar at Okarito closed last, night. This i.s good news to the district, because after a lapse of some three weeks or so it will now he possible to cut the new channel along the .south side protection works on the old original channel site.
Some time ago upwards of £IOOO was spent in an endeavour to close the channel, at that time to enable a new channel to be cut along the new protective works, hut this proved a failure. Now, with the channel blocked on its own accord, when the lagoon hacks up sufficiently, the channel will he.put where desired; and it is expected |Jiat a permanent channel will then he made enabling regular visits of ves-S'--l s to the southern port. ■
