FIRE DAMAGES LIME WORKS

WANGANUI, August 12

A fire was discovered at the Waitotarailime works at 1 o’clock this morn-, ing. Ample water was available, hut no pumping aparatus. Tlie Wanganui brigade sent out two Inen with r an engine and saved portion of the works. '

A new plant was recently ordered but has hot arrived yet. The works are to reopen shortly.

RIDER INJURED

Falling,in tile first race at Riccarton yesterday, one of the riders, Michael Bayley, of Timafu, was rendered unconscious. He was attended by Dr F. L. Scott, and taken to the hospital.

Knocked from his bicycle by a motor-car overtaking him on Papanui, road, an elderly man, Mr C. F. Drury, caretaker of the Methodist Church, Durham street, suffered head injuries last evening arid was admitted to the hospital.
