N.Z. TEAM

AN EASY WIN AGAINST CAHN’S TEAM. (From Special Correspondent of United Press Association with the team). (Received this day at 9 a.m.) LONDON, August 12. The New Zealanders success was really outstanding. It was the first time Sir Julien Calm’s team have been beaten since 5 years ago, when touring in South America. The New Zealandhowling was excellent especially Roberts who might easily have taken six or eight wickets ; several snicks evading the fieldmen. He performed the hat-trick before lunch for the first time in his career and received the ball as a souvenir. C'owie bowled his fastest and all of the batsmen played him defensively. There wa s -nothing wrong with the wicket and it was a performance of great merit to dismiss such a strong side so cheaply in both innings >New Zealand comfortably scored the runs required although the howling was of the average County strength. Tindill gave probably his best display for the tour making clean, strong strokes all round the wicket. Carson punished anything short with great severity.

NOTTINGHAM, August 12. Although Fames will be unable to p’ay, through continued trouble with a strained side, the English team for the final test is probably just as strong with Gover included, especially as he is accustomed to the wicket at the Oval. Most of the clitics expect the match to be drawn. Hadlee is receiving treatment in London for leg strain. Kerr and Moloney' were. both indisposed yesterday through summer si kness, which evidently was induced by muggy heat. All are expected to be fit for the test.

MACARTNEY'S CRITICISM. SYDNEY. August 12. Macartney, writing in the “Hera.d says: England's team tor the final test against New Zealand should be superior, but although three changes have been made, the selectors have still not adopted fully progressive measures. Macartney says that the reason lor the inclusion of Matthews seems obscure. He is not a youth, and although he has fair performances, he has done nothing outstanding, and it seems strange that he should be preferred to •J. tY. A. Stephenson. BLUNT AT NOTTS. NOTTINGHAM, August 12. To-c!ay the weather is dull, but the wicket is good. Blunt, the New Zealand cricketer, who was married recently, is twe'fth man for Calm’s team against New Zealand •
