Disclosing the first State surplus in eight years, the Victorian Budget was presented by the Premier, Hon. Mr Dunstan to-day in the Assembly. r J be surplus amounts to twenty-two thousand sterling For the year 1937-3 S. it is proposed by the Government to reduce the unemployment. tax by twenty per cent., thereby giving the taxpayers a concession of three hundred thousand sterling. The basic rate for payment to the sustenance workers is to be increased by ten per cent. The past year’s revenue was £25.HO.OOO. The expenditure was £25,095,000 There is also a small surplus of £1025 on the railway operations. It is largely owing to the reduction of the capital outlay by thirty millions.
