OBITUARY

The death of Mrs Jane Richards widow of a Brunner disaster victim, took place at Taylorville yesterday, aged 79 years. Deceased was a native of Ballarat, Victoria and had resided in the Brunner district for the past 6 'i years. One son, James, was killed m the Dobson explosion, and two sons, Charles and'Robert, died in the Great War. She is sunivod by one son } William, of Taylorville, and one daughter, Miss L. Richards, of Wellington.

The sudden death occurred at the residence of her sister, Mrs M. .McBride, Greymouth, yesterday, of Miss Teresa O’Donnell, after a brief illness. Deceased who was born in Greymouth oS years ago. \va s a daughter of the late Jeremiah and Catherine O’Donnell, and had resided at Brunner and Reefton. She leaves two /Sisters (Sister Mary Agnes, of the Consent of Mercy, Greymouth) and Mrs McBride (Greymouth), and four brothers (James, of Runanga; Charles, of Grevmouth ; Michael, of Auckland; and John, of Bruce Bay).

The death has occurred of Mr George Herbert Dolby, aged 72, who until the oeginning ofHliis year, was editor of the ‘‘Taranaki Herald.” Born at Liverpool, he \vc« educated <ft Clifton College and at Cambridge. He was aii assistant master at Shrewsbury School from 1889 to 1896. On coming to New Zealand lie engaged in farming before entering journalism.

The death has occurred of Sir David Orme Masson. aged 79, Professor .Emeritus' in the University of Melbourne, one of the greatest scientists in Australia’s history.

Well-known in ,the South Island, where he completed 40 years as a school teacher, the last 15 as headmaster of the Sydenham School, Mr William Alexander Rumhold died yesterday, after a long illness. Mr Rumbold retired from the staff of the Sydenham School a few weeks ago. Born at Motueka and educated at Nelson College, he was assistant at the Nelson Boys’ Central School, before becoming headmaster at Grnnitv and Millerton in succession. After several years as headmaster of the Reefton District High School, lie was appointed in 1922 to the Sydenham School, a position he held until his retirement recently. He is survived by Mrs Ruinhold, one daughter, Miss Jean Runihokl, and two sons, John and Maekay. all of Christchurch.
