A billiard table wicket gave the tourists an almost certain prospect of hrtwling the County’s huge score. Kerr and Donnelly proceeded quietly and surely for a second century partnership. Heavy rain fell just before lunch, and the game was abandoned as a draw. The New Zealanders hardest County match will be at Leeds j though Yorkshire will probably be without Sutcliffe, who has injured his leg. New Zealand will probably be weakened by the absence of Roberts, who has a sore shoulder, It was massaged to-day, but he has not yet recovered.^ Two-day games at Sunderland and Dunfermline, and a first-class match at Glasgow, will precede the second test at Manchester. English critics are urging changes in the home team, declaring the same bowlers will not dismiss New Zealand twice at Old Trafford. ‘ Significance is attached to the teams for gentlemen and players, more especially the omission of Gover, Voce, and Verity, and the inclusion of Smith, Wellard, and Langridge. Perhaps this is a pointer to the future. 1 Parks has not returned, the Players opening batsmen being Hutton and Barnett. Fames is reported as not available for the second test. The New Zealand team will depend largely on weather prospects. Laniasdri is now a contender for a position, in consequence of his excellent batting and fielding at Norwich, Taunton, and Bristol.
