Doctors may differ regarding the harmlessness of tobacco, but the famous London physician, Sir Bruce Porter, entertains no doubt on the subject. “I know,” he says, “tobacco is an extreme comfort to a great many, 1 and i wish more particularly to reassure old folks so that they may not be terrified from enjoying one of the few pleasures ' remaining to those of advanced years. Tobacco in moderation is not going to do them any harm.” ' So far from that it may do them a great deal of good, provided it's as pure as it ought to be. Unfortunately it very often isn’t. Tho constant use of tobacco full of nicotine may seriously affect the heart or wreck the nerves, well, there’s no occasion I for any Maorilander to run such risks.
