N.Z. TOUR LEICESTER’S FINE SCORE. (From special correspondent of United Press Association with the team). (Received this, day at 10.30 a.m.) . LEICESTER, July 7. The weather was dull, but the' wicket was good. Berry and Prenticd 1 established a record first wicket part-’ nership against New Zealand in England, scoring 205 together, and beating tlie Hobbs-Sutcliffe partnership score at Scarborough in 1932, when they both also scored centuries. Berry and Prentice also made the record stand of present tour, eclipsing the Mammondllardstaff score of 235 in the test. The conditions were overwhelmingly m favour«of the batsmen, the wicket being the easiest imaginable, and the outfield exceptionally fast. Moreover, luck 'was against the tourists. , Berry early played Roberts against his stumps without removing the bails, and thrice survived leg-before appeals by Cowie. Nevertheless, the batting proved unenterprising, and the players were often barracked. New Zealand’s bowling was uniformly steady j and the fielding was enthusiastic. The New Zealand team is:—Vivian, Moloney, Wallace, Kerr, Hadlee, Lamason, TindeU, Donnelly, Cowie, Gallichan, and Roberts. LEICESTER—-First Innings.
