HERTZOG’S DESIRES (United Press Association—By Electn. Telegraph—Copyright). CAPETOWN jJuly 7. General Ilertzog, Prime Minister, in an . interview, reproached the British Government for withholding the transfer of the native Protectorates Gi Basutoland, Bechuanaland unu Swaziland to the South African Union. He alleged that Britain was playing with this ''question. General Hertzog said that lie had had a written assurance two years ago, that the transfer might he possible in a few years’ time. “I now learn, that it will be a long time before the transfer is possible. The Union does not want to have recourse to the South African Act to request the King, by a decision in Parliament, to accede to the transfer. The consequences of such a step are
so incalculable that I am not accepting the latest British reply as final.” LONDON, July 7.
The “Morning Post’s” diplomatic correspondent that the British position in regard to the territories of Basutoland, Bechuanaland and Swaziland that there can be no transref of the territory to South Africa until the natives have been fully consulted, and until adequate discussion has occurred in the British . Parliament.
