CAR TRAGEDY

WOMAN KILLED AT CASS. (Per Press Association.—Copyright). CHRISTCHURCH, June 9. A woman was filled instantaneously and two men were .'injured, one of them seriously, in a motor ear accident near Cass, .this afternoon. The ear, crashed over the baiik. Killed.—Mrs T. W. Voljer, aged 68, of Worcester Street, Christchurch. Injured.—Thomas William Voller, aged 69; fractured skull, broken leg, and fractured forearm-; William Booth Lambert, aged 44 -.fractured wrist and head injuries. Lambert was the driver of the car, aitid is a commercial traveller. He: said he was on the way from Christchurch to Greymouth with Mr and Mrs Voller as passengers. In the back of the ear were several sample cases and other equipment, and suddenly, when rounding a bend, the back wheels seemed to lock, and the ear swayed from side to side, becoming out of control, and crashing over a bank 15 to 20 feet, with a small creek below. The luggage at the back forced the front seat on top of the occupants, and they were unable to move. Lambert regained consciousness soon after the crash, but he was unable to move for about an hour. Then assistance came from a passing car. A Christehm-eh-Otira excursion train wa s held at the Ca.4k for 20 minutes while the injured were placed on board, and at Springfield the train waited ten minutes while the injured" were transferred to a St. John ambulance, which brought them to Christchurch.
