GROWTH OF ROUGH PLAY {Per Press Association.— Copyright). DUNEDIN, May 18. Alarm was freely expressed by the Rugby Union last evening at the growth of Illegal rough play ill Dunedin senior football. The question arose as the result of the Southern-Union match played last Saturday, when a Urn ion player was ordered off for striking an opposing player- After a lengthy discussion it was decided to deal more rigorously with offenders in the future. Olio member stated that most of th* trouble arose from obstructions on line outs, and the pulling of their opponents by the jersey, while Vie Cavanagh stated it was the old question of players coining through scrummages offside, with the referee not taking any action. As for the specific case of ordering off, the referee admitter he had not actually seen the blow struch, so the committee resolved to take no further action in the matter.
