“Whatever foreboding there might lie that the Government is going to try to be faster than Dr Lovelock, there is unanimity that it had done the right thing in inviting him to revisit his native land,” said the Hon P. Fraser, Minister of Public Health, at a dinner tendered to the athlete by the New Zealand Olympic and British Empire Games Association. Mr Fraser added it had been indicated to Lovelock that, if he thinks his life work lies here, a place might be found for him. and his name exploited in the interests of the young people in New Zealand.

The Minister compliinented the secretary of the Association for having suggested in* the newspapers that Lovelock might be offered a position as director for physical culture for the Dominion. The Minister said he was quite satisfied Lovelock was well equipped to give advice to the youth of the country on physical education. Sir Michael Myers, who proposed the toast of Dr Lovelock, said his feat in winning the mile was made possible through the beneficence of Cecil Rhqdes. “] wonder if you know the percentage of Rhodes Scholars who return to New Zealand is by far the smallest of any country. Why is it they say they do not get an opportunity, aiid if they do come back they have to start at the bottom rung of the ladder? Something should be done to make a position for some of our Rhodes Scholars,, and Lovelock is one of them.
