SINGAPORE, Nov. 9. Entomologists and tropical disease
specialists are greatly concerned over the dailger of aeroplanes introducing into clean areas insects that may transit disease or become agricultural pests. . ~!
The Imperial Institute of Entomology’s seventh annual reports just to hand, mentions that they had received for identification from Kenya and the Suden during the past year fairly large collections of insects found in aeroplanes. Dr Jameson-Carr, , world-famous tropical disease specialist, speaking .at Singapore recently, said that the stage was set in the East for -the “greatest,, disease catastrophe since, the Black Death.”
When in. Malaya recently, he was, bitten, by mosquitos, everywhere, vet the natives exhibited the greatest fatalism toward the mosquito.
Mosquito carriers of dengue fever were rife in Singapore, and in the event of yellow fever breaking out in Malaya, the mosquito vectors would be .present in millions, to spread the scourge..., .-, s: - !
