On September 26, there were 49/119 men wholly or partly dependent on the Employment Promotion Fund. On October 24, the figure had dropped to 46.140. : I ' , . ~ . Registered, but not eligible or riot placed on relief; September, 26, 1936, 2209; October 24, 1936, 2173. Receiving rational relief work under scheme No. 5: September 26 13,955 ; October 24, 12,582.

Receiving sustenance without work: September” 26, 25,744; October 24, 24,031.

Receiving full-time employment wholly or .partly paid from the fund: September 26, 7511; October 24, 7084. Totals : September 26, 49,419; October 24, 46,140. The Minister said that he was pleased to note the decrease in the figures. He mentioned that the Government has now a wider system ot classification, which has brought into the figures many thousands of men who under the system adopted by the previous Government, were not included in the registrations. Of the number of men who are receiving sustenance, Mr Armstrong said, probably 7000 were not physically capable of'working at all; while, possibly, another seven or eight thousand would not be able to do ordinarily heavy manual work,/
