BILATERAL AGREEMENT SOUGHT.

“I have come to seek the co-opera-tion of Britain in rationalising Empire trade,” the Hon. Walter Nash told the Associated Press upon his arrival at Southampton.

He,expects to be six'months'in England with whom he hopes tb make a bilateral agreement for the marketing of dairy produce. If successful therein he will endeavour to make similar agreements with the other Dominions, and finally foreign countries. “It is the first opportunity a Labour Government in New Zealand has hail to re-organise marketing along the lines of its own policy. 1 am most hopeful of success.

“1 have been empowered to discuss anything while in Britain—defence, finance, or other matters, but the principal business is naturally marketing. “I know we have many difficulties to meet, and I wish to emphasise that New Zealand is not trying to fight the British farmers, but wants to co-oper-ate for the mutual advantage of both countries.”

IMPROVED TRADE RELATIONS

While the liner Queen Mary was battling against a gale on her way to Southampton, the “Daily Herald” rang up the New Zealand Minister for Finance (the Hon. W. Nash), wno emphasised New Zealand’s hopes for improved 'trade between New Zealand and Britain, and especially for a treaty i exchanging British manufactures in return for dairy meat and wool.

The “Daily Herald,” in a leading article welcoming Mr Nash pays a tribute to the Government’s tirst year of office, during which it has wort the admiration of all democratic countries by its courage and the. quality of its , work. “British Labour, wishes Mr Nash success in his important negotiations,” it states. “There is no limit to the amount or quality of the products New Zealand can send to our mutual advantage.”
