MR AND MRS C. J. SANDERS There was a largo and representatiev attendance at St. Mary’s Club rooms on Monday evening, .when a farewell social was tendered by the parishioners of Hokitika and district to Mr and Mrs C. J. Sanders, prior to their departure <for Christchurch where they will mak e their home in future. : ...

General regret at their departure was voiced by several speakers, who wished Mr and Mrs Sanders every success in the future, and appreciation was voiced of the services they had rendered tne Church in its various spheres. *

The Rev. Father Finerty, on behalf of the choir ; presented Mr Sanders with a handsome mounted ink-stand, and paid tribute to the manner in which h e had carried out his duties to the choir and to the Church. He wished them every success in their future sphere. Mr W. J. Jeffries on behalf of the parishioners asked Mr and Mrs Sanders to accept a beautiful silver tea service and oak tray. Mr Jeffries said Mr and Mrs Sanders, who had given devoted service to the church, would be greatly missed j -but they and their family would carry away the bqst wishes of everybody lor their future welfare.

On behalf of members of the Debating Club, Mr M. Keen presented Mr Sanders with a reading lamp.

The Rev. Father O’Gorman paid tribute to the excellent work Mrs- Sanders had done for the Church, and he joined with the other speakers in extending to them both, good wishes for the future. .

• Mr Sanders responded on behalf of Mrs Sanders and himself, thanking the speakers for their kind references and various branches of the Church for their gifts of appreciation. During the evening the following contributed items:—Misses M. Jones, E. Dale, S. Sanders, D. Stopforth, J. Warren and Mr T. Stopforth .The accompaniments were played by Misses A. Daly, G. Jacobs, L. Dale, M. Stopforth a n d J. Robinson. At the conclusion a dance was held, the evening concluding with the singing of Auld Lang Syne r Mr Sanders leaves for Christchurch to-morrow morning.
