Considerable damage which appears to be the work of vandals was done to the Maori War ]V|emorifil in the Government Gardens, when the lifesized figure of a Maori chief, which stood at the foot of a column supporting the statue of King George the Fifth, was knocked' off its pedestal and, broken. The figure was of considerable significance to the Maoris and resentement is expressed at the destruction.
