BRUCE BAY NOTES

(From Our Correspondent)

Mrs Andrews opd Noel were passengers north by the plane during the week.

The. Bay was busy during the week in regard to shipping. The m.v. Kara arrived last Monday and the m.v. Gael on Wednesday. The Gael after encourtering a heavy southerly wind and high seas pulled in for shelter. This vessel was loaded for Okuru and is expected here next week.

The m.v. Kara sailed Thursday morning with timber for Wellington via Greymouth. The extension on the local mill is now finished and the machinery will be assembled next week.

A nasty accident befel Jack Mahnika during loading operatipns last Wednesday, when he had the misfortune to crush his hand whilst hapdUng timber.

Mr Le Compte arrived from north.today with a ,pew , International truck which is to be used for- the P,W.D. for road work.

To-day (Sunday) was a beautiful day when the moths were chased out of the bathing costumes and the holes darned for the opening of the swimming season. Quite a number took to the water and some who had their first swim, this year in the Bay were loud in their praises of such a line beach, which no, doubt is second to none in New Zealand. All of far . South Westland is wishing the. Progress League every success in’ their movement to bring about a bi-weekly mail service. At present, something will have to be done as the amount of mail to Brace Bay alone is steadily increasing every week. Mr Frank Stuart and party left on a fishing excursion this morning for Parjnga. Later report this evening stated the party arrived back safely lyitli a .shark. Quite a profitable day’s outing.

“Darby” Glass landed a fine schnapper off the rocks this afternoon so it will be fish supper in the P,W-D. camp to-night. Jn conclusion, I would like to advise the' many Who knock at my door during the week to inquire if 1 still have the “Guardian” with the. Bruce Bay biotes to leaves their name with the correspondent or place their order direct with the Hokitika “Guardian” for subscription. I feel sure these people would not be disappointed and would have these notes prompt with their mail.
