' . ; 1 Recent ,floods have caused considerable dailuige to the surface of the roads. County and’ hired .trucks were oi gaged for 7 -days patch-metalling the entire; lehgth of tlie ; Highway. Three suie crates have been added fo' the where serious erosion continues,, also new planks were put • into the bridge deck where necessary. Lake Kanieri M.H. A Goiihty truck was engaged foy three days carting stone and inanuka for the protection work at Corner, also two men have been employed, for 12 days cutting back tiio corner of the road, and tipping the spoil procured over the bank where the river has undermined the road. i,v • ~ V :' Sr . ■■■•'■ ■ 'i, .' ~v- ■' v. Two more days cleaning up .Ward R ad pit will leave it in good order. General maintenance work lias been carried out throughout the length of the highway. Forms have been removed from the beams and superstructure of Stripland’s C'Mek Bridge and the work is well advanced with the approaches, and shodld be completed early next month. The bridge Ins been complete! very satisfactorily, and much credit is due to the contractor. ' j. / ' .-•{ • ,!; Upper Kokatahi M.H. ~ ~ A local truck'was engaged for three days spreading and patch-metalling the full, length of the highway, a total of 75 yards of■ gravel having- been put,on. Over 6000 sup. ft. of timber, comprising caps, stringers, and decking, have been ordered for 'repairs necessary to Duck Creek Bridge. A start on this 1 will be made as soon as possible, * ■ ■ T/fr Fork’s-Okarito M.H. General maintenance of road surf co and wateftables has been carried oat satisfactorily by the roadman. A County truck working for 3 days, together with roadman and four men, spread 60 yards of gravel where required-. • Tin power grader with three men, worked the length of the . Highway.
