CIVIL WAR
IN PART’S OF ABYSSINIA
LONDON, November 7
Civil war was believed to have broken out between the provinces of Ambara and Gal la, north and south, respectively, of Addis Ababa, the capital of Abyssinia, the Foreign Secretary (Mr Anthony Eden) said, in -reply to a question in the Commons. In western Abyssinia and in other parts of the country so far unchallenged by the Italian forces there had been much tribal unrest. In fact. Mr Eden added, the situation in the. unoccupied provinces- had continued to deteriorate steadily.
During the rainy season there had been no appreciable extension of the area occupied by the Italians. It was known, however, that an Italian' column was advancing''on -the province of Jimma,'in the 'middle-west.
A second, column was making its way northward from the Kenya frontier, and was believed to liavc occupied Alata, approximately half-way to Addis Ababa.
