IN MOTOR REGISTRATIONS

Records have been made this year in registrations of motor vehicles and changes of ownership .record by the Motor Registrations branch of the Post Office, and at the end of September there were 21(3, ; 178 vehicles licensed for use in the Dominion, an increase compared with twelve months ago of 24,659, representing a percentage rise of 12.87. The registrations (which represent new vehicles) for seven of the nine months of this year were in each case the highest for these particular months sine© the inception of the Motor Vehicles Act twelve years ago, the only two months not making fresh records being January and April. Total registrations fon the nine months were 24,434, eompafed with 17,382 for the corresponding period of 1935. The relative advance in numbers of arious classes of motor vehicles this year is shown as folows:— I • % Cars ... ... 5,381 45.74 Commercial vehicles ... 1,489 36.77 Motor cycles ... 182 11.58 The remarkable advance in the number of new vehicles caused a general trading activity which reflected itself in record figures of change of ownership notifications. September with 10,405 transfer’s heat any previous September "record by 2,794, while the .total changes of ownership of motor vehicles notified this year <to the end of September (92,755) exceeded those for the first nine months of 1935 by 23,926, or 34.76 per cent.
