The sum- of £50,000, the first prize iii the Melbourne Cup ; Tattersall’s 'Sweepstake awaits a New Zealand claimant, with the initials W.D., Recording to information from Taihape. Mr J. Caird, Postmaster at Taihape, stated that he received a radio call ■ from the “Sydney Sun” asking lijm to. make inquiries in his district, for a person with the initia’s W'.D. He made inquiries all day, but has been unable yet to trace the person.
There is no Confirmation regarding the reported winning of fifty thousand pounds in a, Melbourne Cup sweep by a rabbiter on a station at M.oahwango. There is a rabbiter. aged about fifty-five, who lives far back, and. he has a ticket in a sweep, but he treits the -rumour' Sightly until official confirmation is received. ,
