JAP. ABDUCTIONS

FEDERAL AUTHORITIES’ CHECK CANBERRA, October 5. The Government patrol boat, Larrikiah, now policing northern waters, has checked the interference with aboriginal women by Asiatics, including Japanese pearlers, according to tli G Department of the Interior. Soon after it was stationed at Darwin, the Larrikiah intercepted a foreign vessel, and returned to their homes the native women who were aboard. It makes occasional patrols of the coastline and Bathurst and Alelville Island at irregular intervals, and the Department helieves that further depredations are unlikely with the waters policed in his way. Officials are convinced that the abduction prevented bv.. the launch is the one Monsignor Gsell had in mind when he made his recent allegations. The Alinister for th e Interior (Mr Paterson) admitted to-day that many raids had occurred up to the time the launch was sent to Darwin. The Department realised, he said, that without the launch it would be impossible to prevent these incidents.
