THEFT CHARGE
EX-DETECTIVE AS BURGLAR. MELBOURNE. Ma y 27. Under the disguise of “,Toh n Smith,” a former well-known detective stood in the City Court dock to-day, charged on five counts of house breaking and entering.
The charges concerned robberies lof £l5O worth of goods from five homes in the Malvern and Glen Iris districts, between April 2 and Mnv 9. “Smith” was remanded on bail of £l5O. c Smith” was a prominent member } of the Victorian police force until about nine months ago, when he suddenly left the service. ' He was well known at several Murray Iliver towns.
