SINGER’S SUCCESS. £ (Par Pregg Association, Copyright}*'*' - " IJ DUNEDIN, May 26. Another brilliant musical success, cap ping his winning baritone solo performance at the London musical festival against competition from all over England, has ,been achieved /by Mr Denis Dowling, of who went overseas last year 1 ito study at the Royal College of Music. Mr Dowling sat for an exhibition scholarship, and ; advioe received by his relatives is that he won it, entitling/him to two years’ free tuition- at the college. An elimination contest was held-in conjunction with the London festival:* Other competitors were /two pianists, .a violinist, and a 16-year-qld ’cellist; who won the £IOO prize. ' •
WAGE CUTS RESTORED WELLINGTON, May 27. y Air D. J. ‘McGowan wa r S r unanimous- < ly elected chairman-of the' Wellington Harbour Board at the annual meeting to-day. Mr McGowan has been a member for the past thirteen years. The Board decided toy'restore theremaining balance of the ten per cent, cut to the permanent; staff, and the regular casual employees. The restoration is retrospective to April Ist The amount involved was stated to be something like £4900 annually. v.■
