SATURDAY’S GAME

Senior.* Excelsior 34, Pirates 0. Kiwi 0, Cobden 9;' Blaketown 17/'St?lfs 8. Junior. Kiwi 14, Ross 11. Kokatahi 15, Pirates 0. ' Third Grade. Excelsior 21, Pirates 11.

The two senior games played on Cass Square on Saturday afternoon attracted a fair attendance. On No 1 ground the Pirates / ' failed to get together iri sufficient strength-to Hold the Excelsiors, and went down in substantial manner, while on No 2 ground a hard fought contest ended iri a draw, nine points each.

- EXCELSIOR V PIRATES

The opening stages were fairly , even, the Pirates /forwards ' holding their own while poor, handling by the Kxsrilsior bafcks dost much ground -.at times. The first. feature was a neat potted goal by Mackrill, the Excelsior full-back. Before Half time tries were scored ‘by ■ Fleming and Connolly, one. of which Davidson converted. In tne second half the Pirates held their own for a while but then their condition gave out and Excelsiors scored - at regular intervals and six tries were added two of which were converted by Davidson and Mackrill, the game r ending Excelsior- 34 points (Btries, three converted and a potted goal) to nil. The 'scorers were Davidson (2), Fleming (2), Connolly/ Muir, ' Kelly, and Bradley. Mr R. Collett' was referee.

KIWI V. COBDEN.

This game was played cn number two ground and was an everi, hardfought game right"‘throughout. The Kiwi team started with 13 'men, but had their full strength* during the gamer The result was a good indicition of the evenness of the teams. Neither side had much combination,and the scores were more"or less individual efforts. The goal kicking of both * sides was very poor.

BLAKETOWN 17 y.' STAR 8. 1

There was only one. senior match at y Rugby Park on Saturday, when Blaketown defeated Stars by 17 points (three tries, one converted, and two penalty goals) to eight (two tries, one of which was converted). A good atten-: dance of spectators witnessed a keenly contested and at times a very exciting game, especially towards the end of 'itye second spell, when ■ Blaketown team exploited the open game to advantage.

The junior game, Excelsiors v Aralntra wa s postponed on Saturday.'V. The junior game at Kokatahi,. between Kokatahi aml Pirates resulted in a win for Kokatahi by 15 to nil."

THIRD GRADE •

The third grade match. at Woodstock between Excelsior third grade rud Pirates resulted, in a win for Exselsinrs by 21 to 11. For the winners, Dolich, Keen, , Hurfen, Henderson,, and Breeze scored'tries the latter runverting three. For Woodstock, Wells Knowles, and Keenan scored tries the latter converting one. Mr A. Howat was referee. , -

A very fine display of new season's winter dress materials are now allowing. Also new frocks and coats in latest styles at Schroder and Co. An early inspection is cordially invited. A fresh, supply of pull-on hats are now opening out again at Schroder and Co.—
