DOMINION SECRETARY’S VISIT

A visit was paid to Hokitika this week by the Dominion Plunket Society secretary (Miss Fitzgibbon). A reception was held at the home of the president (Mrs .1. L. Monzies). Mno welcomed the visitor on behalf of the committee. Miss Fitzgibbon gave a most interesting and instructive account of Plunket affairs, and a detailed description of the excellent work of the Karitane institution throughout New Zeal md. The visitor emphasised that the great purpose of the Plunket Society was to reduce the infant mortality rate, and to ensure the better health of children. Since the Society’s foundation, the death rate among infants had fallen from 80 to 30 per thousand. Co-opera-tion and guidance could lower still further the annual number of deaths. Charts and graphs illustrating the splendid work of the four sections of the Karitane Hospital were sliown by ‘Miss Fitzgibbon who explained the method of operation.
