FINANCE MINISTER’S VIEWS
(Per Press Association, Copyright)
WELLINGTON, December 13
Speaking at the Petone Memorial Technical . College this afternoon Mr Walter Nash (Minister of Finance) said he would like to see more extensive general education before the •period of specialisation began. lhat would involve the raising of the school leaving age, the training of more teachers, and the erecting of more school buildings. AH that could not be done in a. day. It was not of much use raising the school age, without reorganising the system, for if the leaving ago were raised by two years they must decide what was to tie taught in those years. His own opinion was that they needed greater time to be devoted to general subjects, to artistic subjects, and to those tilings which would help them to live a full, rich life, and to enjoy more of what the world had to offer them.
