The Executive sat at 7.30 p.m. Present: Messrs J. A,. Murdoch (Chairman), and A. Dale. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs "W. A. Jamieson, and T R. Chesterman.

The minutes of the previous meeting were confirmed, and the outward correspondence was approved.

inward Correspondence

From Unemployment Board, acknowledging letter reporting that Kayll and Begbie had returned from prospecting operations at Okurii.—Beceived. From same, approving of special assistance to J. F. Cooper anc\ T Whiteman while prospecting at Duffers Creek.—Received.

From same, relative to subsidised prospectors prospecting on claim held by A. J. Dillon enquiring for further particulars.—Received, and particulars to be supplied. From same, two letters acknowledging report on prospecting by shaft sinking at Loopline road, stating that copies of report had been forwarded to Mines Department for information purposes.—Received. From same, acknowledging letter of the 14th recommending special assistance to J. Redpath, Westport, stating that the question of granting assistance was receiving the attention of the Board and the Mines Department.— Received and noted.

From same, relative to prospecting by H. Wellman in South Westland, enquiring if committee recommend the payment of £4 per week, to Wellman s assistant; .also stating that the Board could not grant a rate in excess oi 80s per week for a single man to assist Wellman in prospecting between Tereinakau river and Waimea Creek.—Received and noted.

From same, telegram dated 21st inst authorising payment to .W A. Kayll of 60s per week to assist Wellman for four weeks. —Received with thanks. From same, approving of special assistance recommended in letter from corr mitteo dated October 28.—Received with thanks. . ... From A. From E. G. Silk, relative to repairs to footbridge at Wataroa river.—Received, horse hire, to .be authorised il cost reasonable. ' ...

Supervisor McQuillan who was present, said it was necessary •to continue Griffen. in the coming week as he was the third member of an essential shift, as work was now carried on in three shifts per day. It was resolved to notify the Board of the position, and Griflen’s further employment was authorised by the Committee.

From A. I). Howat, youth ; application to be reinstated on prospecting scheme at special rate of 15s. —Recommended.

From G. Davis, application for assistance to prospect at Bullock Creek, Haast.—Approved when eligible. From Schofield and Thompson, application for assistance to .■•prospect at Gorge river, application granted subject to approval of meeting.

Supervisor Moore reported on various inspections of prospecting operations during the past two weeks, as well as supplying plant to Donegal prospecting work.—Received. (Supervisor McQuilkin reported in respect to tile shaft sinking off Loopline i'ord whore No. 1 shalt was down to 62 fret in ground showing prospects although working contimionsly three shifts a day, they were flooded out. On consulting Engineer Strong it was deeid-

ecT to defer further work for the present as pumping equipment would be necessary. The shaft was about half filled with water at present. No 2 shaft had been started and was down 14 feet. It was being puddled to keep out the drainage. Fine colours showed in the dishes of dirt washed. The men had worked splendidly while trying to beat the water, and when short handed had worked eight hours on and eight off. The full team of nine was essential for the work. —Received.

It was resolved Engineer .Strong and the Board be communicated with regarding an adequate pumping outfit to deal with No. 1 shalt so that it could be bottomed • The last dirt taken out of the shaft showed dish prospects indicating the wash was being extended. The report oT gold won for the past two weeks by the pospectors, totalled 22ozs Sdwts, 15 gvs.—Received. The meeting concluded at 8.10 p.m.
