CAWTHRON SEEKING l’A lIA SITE. NELSON, August 1. The trust board of the (Jawtliron Institute has decided to allow Or David Miller, assistant director and chief entomologist to the institute, to visit South America to secure supplies ol piri-piri, saw fly, and grass-grub parasites. Mr T. Kigg, director of the institute stated that the biological control of both piri-piri and graSs-grub was a matter of great importance to the farming industry of New Zealand. The initial stages of investigations relating to the control oi these pests had been successfully carried out b.v Dr. Miller and his staff, but serious difficulties had arisen with the supply of parasites from South America, making it imperative for a personal visit by a member of the cntomologial staff of the institute.

Difficulties during the last 18 months had been experienced not only in the collection in South America of insects and parasites, but also in their safe transit to Nelson. Dr Miller ( who in a previous visit to South America had been successful- in locating suitable collecting grounds and in transporting the material to New Zealand, bad been again selected for this important mission.
