SENSATIONAL SHOOTING AFFRAY PKHPF.TRATOR’S SUICIDE (Australian Press Association.) SYDNEY, August 2.

A sensational shooting affray in broad daylight, which was witnessed by a motorist, occurred on Victoria Road, Gladesville, a suburb of Sydney today. A woman named Mary' Emmaline Andrews, who formerly was a wards* maid, employed at the a'Hadesvn-o Mental Asylum, was shot dead, allegedly bv Peter Kopievsky, aged 48 years, a wharf labourer, who afterwards committed suicide with his revolver.

The shooting was related to the police by a motorist, Francis Hume. He informed the police that he was driving his car near the scene when he observed Kopievsky speak to the woman Andrews, who was about to go on duty at a ncighoouring asylum- He then saw Andrews rush across the road, and Kopvicsky followed her . He fired three shots. The woman then dropped dead on the tramline. Hume stated that he accelerated his car and swung it around and tried to run down Kopievsky after the first shot was fired. Kopievsky, however, eluded hitn, and then fired a second shot. The latter, gained the. footpath, were he shot himself before Hume could reach him.

A woman acquaintance ,of Andrews told the volice that .; Kopievsky was infatuated with Andrews. He had tried to find her the night before. Bolh Kopievsky, wbo was Russian, and Andrews, were married.
