OBEY DISTRICT COMMITTEE GREYMOUTH, August 3. At the monthly meeting of the District Committee of the Greymouth Jockey Club yesterday, there were present, Messrs TV. H. Parfitt (acting chairman). F. McGregor, A. E. Kilgour and C. L. Kettle. A welcome was extended to Air McGregor, who has taken the place of Mr D. J. Evans, as representative of the Westland Racing Club, the chairman congratulating him on his appointment, and recovering from his recent illness. He felt that Mr McGregor would capably follow in the footsteps of Air Evans, and would prove of the most valuable assistance. Mr McGregor, like Air Evans, he stated, was a true, sport. Air McGregor suitably replied. The Westland Racing Club advised that the committee of the Club had been looking into the congestion of Coast dates for the autumn meeting. Commencing on April 4 and ending on. April 22, there were seven racing .dates and the Westland Club’s date fell in the middle, with racing days close at hand. It was felt the TVestland meeting would suffer with four days’’ racjng in seven days. It was proposed, at first, to follow Reefton, but it was found the Saturday following was Anzao Day, and with the Nelson meet- . ing thereafter the Club bad decided tET" - would be unwise from a financial point of view to' race on April 15. A decision was reached t<? apply for permission to move the permit forward, and use it for a three-day .meeting at Christmas, namely ... on, Thursday, December 25, .and Saturday, December '. 28 (as approved already), and Monday, December 30, for the third day, using the autumn permit. A skeleton programme had been drawn up setting out the events. The extra day and the provision of three [rood hack races and a substantial cup race, should induce a fair outside entry, and so strengthen the other meetings at the season of the year when the clubs received tiie bettor patronage. The citizens also proposed having a festival period with the sports and games in the town for Christmas week, ancl so draw a large number of visitors to the Coast. Approval - was therefore sought for the"change of dates a s indicated. • The proposed change was approved. Air Fogarty said the only thing was that At was ’racing close up: to Grey-..-' rnoutli. '
