The Town Clerk said the balance of principal on Borough loans outstanding as at July 1, 1935, was £14,895. the sum of £12,531 having been paid off.

The total expenditure budgeted for was £4792, and the various items were each considered and approved due consideration being given to each. The statement of receipts was also reviewed,, the estimates as a whole 'being adopted.

.It was stated the rates for the year would lie as follow: Sgd in the £; hospital 3;d ; and specials 3 6-Bcl a total of 1/4 in the £ The sanitary fee was fixed at Iff/- per pan. ‘ '' . The rating proposals show ail increase of one penny as against the rates levied last year. The increase in the West land Hospital Board’s levy was £3BO. The increased rate of one penny would produce £295, and the Council will have to rely on arrears of rates to produce the balance. The expenditure is based on the lowest possible basis, and leaves very little margin for new works. The matter of extending the water main in North Sewell Street, • a distance , tep, chains (costing about £130) would have to be deferred until ficx-t year, hut ■ if the town is to be reticulated with loan money, several necessary extensions could then be undertaken. The Town Clerk recommended a rebate of 5 per cent, be granted on all rates, including sanitary fees, which are paid within thirty days’ of due date. The estimated amount of the rebate is £174.
