BARQUE DESERTER YOUTH MAKING FOR NEW GUINEA (Australian Press Association.) (Received this day at 9-10 a.m.) MELBOURNE, July 14. A message ,'received From Thursday Island states that Bertie Hjelstrom. a 21 -year-old apprentice deserted the barque O'. B. Pederson, and is bobbing about somewhere in Torres Strait in an old wooden bath tub, with an improvised sail, on ibis way to New Guinea.
