LIBRARY NOTES

It is hoped that this weekly column will prove of interest to subscribers and readers, from the point of view of its comment upon particular books and periodicals as well as from its general information on current matters in the' book world. It is hoped, too, that in this column library, matters may Ixr discussed, and that here subscribers will suggest improvements that can he considered by .the committee. . A further step in the modernisation of the-, library has been taken in the completion, of the classification of the non-fiction section. All the hooks in this section are nob*.-arranged according if* subject, and a system of partition and indicator-!;!!>s facilitates the return of hooks to their proper places. The co-operation of subscribers is invited towards the maintenance of. order in this department. Two' classification-sections of special interest aVe “The Modern World” and “Pence, War and World Change.” The first group will picture cross-sections and currents;.of contemporary national life, with the emphasis on its sociological and political nature, lls purpose is to provide factual and ideological data for an understanding of the world to-day, its main tendencies, movements, and institutions. The section “History,” of course will he consulted for background and historical perspective. , The major problems to-day arc bow to eliminate war, usher in universal and stable peace, and so adjust social relations that man's right to happiness may lie realised in fact. “Peace War and World Change,” will offer discussions on these matters. .
