FRAUD CHARGE

ADMITTED TO PROBATION (Per Press Association, Copyright). DANNEVIRKE, July 11. Arising o«t of a competition conducted in Wellington in connection with picking the All Blacky lor the English tour, Abort Frederick Patterson, a Dannevirkc postman, admitted a charge in the Magistrate’s Court today that, with intend to defraud by false Pretences, ho did attempt to obtain from Harold Edward Taylor, promoter of the competition ,ho sum of £SO. The police said the names were sent by wireless on Saturday and Sunday evenings, June 15 and 16. Letters containing the selection of players were to hear the post mark dated not later than June 15, 6 p.m. On June 18 a letter was sent forward, purporting to come from C. JNoble, hairdresser, of Dannevirße, and being the first correct list supplied. It bore the Dannevirkc Post Office date stamp of Juno 15, and the time 6 p.mA departmental inquiry disclosed - that the date stamp was one not officiallyrecorded at the Dannevirkc Post Offi co ’ as there were no mails'leaving at that hour.
