A BIG SCORE

(United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph-Copyright). / ! LONDON, July 8. The South ‘Africans'' made the highest score of the tour. Mitchell and Noiirse immediately attacked the fast bowlers, scoring two runs a minute in the first half-hour. A ball from Voce struck Noiirse, causing him to roll on the ground. Wade scored twenty-two boundaries, including three from one of Larwood’s overs. Mitchell hatted for five hours and hit sixteen fours. Dalton batted against a jaded attack. Scores:—Notts —first innings, 312. South Africa—First innings—All out for 512. (pitched 149, Wade not out 150, Dalton 77, Nourse 47, extras 44). Voce secured 2 wickets, Staples 2, Larwood 3, Knowles and Harris one each.

Sutcliffe, who is ijnfit, is.not playing in the Leeds test.

TEAM FOR N.Z. TOUR. - LONDON, July 8. Marylebo.no announces that E. M. Holmes has been invited to captain the team on the Now Zealand tour. Wyatt refused the captaincy, as he needs a rest. The following have, accepted invitations for thp tour; Mitchell-lnnos, J. H. Human (Middlesex), A. G, Powell (Essex), A. D. Baxter (Marylebone), H. D. Read (Essex), C. J. Lyttelton, James Langridge, Smith (Derbyshire)., J. Simm (Middlesex) and Hardstaif. Two additional players will be chosen. At least eight amateurs will he included.

James Parks (Sussex) has been invited to go.

TEAM FOR N.Z. NOT STRONG FAST BOWLERS OMITTED. LONDON. July 9. The “Mirror” says: “The whole cricket world is asking why Larwood and Voce have again been passed over by the Test selectors. The reason is that both of them have decided to play henceforth only in County cricket. They were personally, approached before the Leeds team was announced. They then declared their new decision. The “Sketch” says: New Zealand was promised that a strong side would ne sent. She will lie disappointed at the absence of many representative players.
