U.S. NEW DEAL
MISGIVINGS IN CANADA. ‘
VANCOUVER, July C. The prospect of a collapse of the N.R.A. in the United States is being viewed with misgivings at Ottawa. Officials of the Dominion Tariff Board cancelled their plans , to visit Washington in connection with the negotiations for a reciprocal tariff and trade treaty. A restraining note was also shown by the action of the Canadian Government in modifying the draft of legislation that had been framed* to implement the report and findings of the Royal Commission on mass buying and price spreads. Reversion, to lower wages and prices, whilst not directly affecting Canadian levels, will have a psychological effect. The export of cattle and lumber from Canada and the United States will, it is expected, be reduced, with resulting slackness in both avenues of trade, which will affect prices and wages.
