ROYAL SOCIETY

ANNUAL (JO.NTEKK^CE (Per Press Association, Copyright). WELLINGTON, June Z 5. Tlie annual conference of the Royal Agricultural Sucicty commenced today. Its history was traced by Mr L. .). Wild, in the presidential ladji'ess, wfio expressed the opinion that neither the Society nor the Royal Show hart yet 'completed the revolutionary period or reached the final loan. Since last conference the ground had definitely been consolidated, both in matter of membership and in Southland’s second demonstration that an excellent and profitable Royal Show <o u ld be run iu spite of geographical bandicaps. It was too soon to judge ol the success or otherwise of district councils, but if, as he believed, men on them had consented to nomination because of faith in the society’s future, and if they could place national interests before al] others, then councils would deserve success and win it, and the history 0 f the society would continue to be the history of the agricultural progress of the Dominion. The election of officers resulted — President, L. J. Wild ; vice president, G. 'H. Mac Niven (Hawke’s Bay) A. S. Holms (Wnirnahaka), ,hon treasurer, Sir W. D. Hunt. It was decided that the council be asked to consider a scheme for subsidising the railage of stock to ißoyal Shows.
