POLICE STATIONS
PROPOSED RENOVATIONS
AUCKLAND, June 5
The renovations or extension of court buildings and police stations throughout the Dominion by the Department of Justice was referred to by the Minister of Justice (the Hon J. G- Co'bbe) in a statement to-day. “The rigid curtailment of expenditure the peak of the depression caused a large number of public buildings throughout New Zealand to fall into a sad state of disrepair,” said the Minister. “However, with the brightened outlook of the last nine months, it has been possible to spend some money in repairs, and in the renovation of many of these buildings. Buildings under the control -of my department—courthouses and police stations —have lately been singled out or renovations, if not for additions. Most of these are in the country districts both' islands, ami the unkept state they present is not in keeping with the towns in which they are located. Mr Cell bo referred to the erection of a' new law library at the Supreme Court 'in Auckland, a work which would be commenced shortly ; and to ih ( , opening of a new courthouse at Putaruru. A similar buildincr was being erected at Waimn, on the East Coast, while a number of buildings in the South Island were being renovated
